Got to flex my moderator muscles some more today. I nerdheart unlimited cosmic power. At least the wikileaks spambot had something interesting to say. These other ones were just website links (I think). It actually looked more like my typing (a bunch of incoherent random letters).

Early this morning there were a lot of SPAM reports. (Apparently you can "Report" a post, and it ends up in the moderation queue. Who knew?) So an anonymous user (bot) had flagged a bunch of random stuff as SPAM, then as their justification for why it was spam, just included some spam links.

Anyway, I killed those too and I think I also disabled the ability for a guest to report a post. I think.

Just wanted to thank you guys for your help with spam control. Looks like I'll probably have to change something in the future.

Right now I've restricted guest posting to the main forum only. Maybe I'll do away with Re-CAPTCHA and try out question-based authentication instead.

It looks like the question-based CAPTCHA thing works well under IE, but does some weird stuff for Firefox.

That is, 90% of the time, it rejects my answer even though it's correct.

The question and answers aren't synched. That is, it asks you a question, takes a response, then compares that response to the answer-grid for a random question. If the random answer-grid happens to match up to the question it originally asked, it works. Otherwise, it gets rejected.

Blargh. There's a firmware update available for my neighbor's router. Maybe we should try that first.
